ONGC Successfully Caps Sivasagar Oil Well After 16-Day Gas Leak

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has successfully sealed a blowout at its RDS-147A oil well in Sivasagar, Assam, after a 16-day gas leak, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri announced today. The operation was completed safely with no reported injuries, marking a significant achievement in crisis management for the state-owned energy giant.

The blowout, which began 16 days ago, posed significant challenges due to the high-pressure gas leak. ONGC deployed specialized teams and equipment to control the situation, working around the clock to cap the well. Minister Puri praised the efforts, stating, "The successful capping of the RDS-147A well demonstrates ONGC's expertise and commitment to safety and environmental protection."

Local authorities and ONGC ensured that nearby communities were safeguarded during the operation, with no adverse environmental impacts reported. The incident has prompted ONGC to review safety protocols to prevent future occurrences.

This development comes as a relief to residents and stakeholders in Sivasagar, reinforcing confidence in ONGC’s operational capabilities. The company continues to monitor the site to ensure stability.
